LOCATION:
US 60 near Versailles, Woodford County, Kentucky

DESCRIPTION:
I spotted this castle around 1997 on a road trip just after moving to Tennessee. It was a number of years before I learned more about the history. The castle was originally built in the 1970s. It was known over the years as the "Martin Castle". Many rumors surrounded it for years, and when I stumbled upon it in 1997, there was a large "for sale" sign out front. I am not certain when the home was sold, but the main building tragically burned down on May 10, 2004.

Since the fire, the home has been rebuilt. The new owner has turned it into a fabulous looking setting and has opened(opened early 2009) it to the public as a "premier luxury hotel". Rooms run around $400 per night. More details and photos can be found at their website.

TYPE:
Castle, formerly a private home, now an upscale inn
