Capitol Relics

STATUS:
Some restored.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
These were parts of the original columns of the Capitol building. They were quarried nearby. Removed in 1955 due to deterioration. Replaced with columns quarried from Indiana limestone. These pieces were placed here during the Bicentennial in 1996 as a memorial to the original stonecutters. Many of the remaining column parts are sitting in a field behind the old Tennessee State Prison off Briley Parkway.
