Bowen Cemetery
Sumner County, Tennessee

The small family cemetery was found during archaelogical research in 1995 and restored. William Bowen moved his family here from Virginia in the 1780s. Their original home, closer to the creek, was washed out in a flood. So they built the home now known as the Bowen-Campbell House in 1787. It is believed to be the oldest brick home in Middle Tennessee. Buried here are William Bowen(1742-1804), his wife Mary Henley Russell Bowen(1760-1827), and a young daughter, Mary(1788). William was a Captain in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War. A grandson of his, William Bowen Campbell(who was born in this house), was Governor of Tennessee from 1851 to 1853.
