#193 Elam-Snell Cemetery

Dilton quadrangle. Located on Elam Rd just west of intersection with Hwy 41 and just north of Mt Tabor Church. About 25 graves. Surnames include Elam, Snell, Ransom, Weldon and Zarth. Oldest known grave is William Snell, 1805-1862.

#194 Elliott Cemetery

Walter Hill quadrangle. Located off Hickory Ln at Sulpher Springs Rd, right beside Route 840. About 8 graves. Surnames include Elliott and Arnold. Oldest known grave is Deborah White Elliott, 1767-1829.
This cemetery has me stumped. I have not located the original cemetery, but the name of James Elliott appears on a large memorial in Evergreen Cemetery(shown here). James Elliott, born Oct 1, 1795, died Oct 30, 1836 is listed as being buried in this Elliott Cemetery. However all of the other names on this large marker are not listed as being buried in Elliott Cemetery(and other names listed for Elliott Cem could not be found in the same area of Evergreen). Of note, any grave dated prior to 1872 located in Evergreen Cemetery are relocations. So is James actually still buried in Elliott Cemetery off Sulpher Springs Rd? Were the graves moved, (perhaps during construction of I-840?) and some lost? Until I find the Elliot markers where they should be(or evidence that they are not there), I may not know. But I present here a grave marker for Elliotts in Rutherford County.

#196 Elrod Cemetery

Milton quadrangle. Located off E Trimble Rd. About 23 graves(at least 20 unmarked). Surnames include Elrod and Thomas. Oldest known grave is A.M. Elrod, Sep 18-25, 1876.

#197 Emery Cemetery

Lascassas quadrangle. Located on Compton Rd at Betty Ford Rd. At least 50 graves, maybe more unmarked. Surnames include Alsup, Black, Huddleston, Stubenfield, Woods and many more. Oldest known grave is Elnore Woods, 1880-1911.

#198 Eskridge Cemetery

Formerly LaVergne quadrangle. Was located north of LaVergne near bend in the Stone River, area is completely under water now. In the 1960s the grave were relocated in the Percy Priest Lake project. It is not clear where they were moved to and I have not located them at Mt Juliet Cemetery where most graves were moved to. About 19 graves(13 unknowns). Surnames include Eskridge, Kimbro, Chandler and Cone. Oldest known grave is Jennie K Chandler, died 1884.

#200 Espey Cemetery

Walter Hill quadrangle. Located on Jefferson Pike at Sharp Springs Rd beside Old Jefferson Church of Christ. About 20 graves(still being used). Surnames include Espey, Cardin, Kilgore, King, and more. Oldest known grave is James Espey, died 1813, Revolutionary War soldier.
This small cemetery started out as a church cemetery at Espey Chapel, not far from the old Espey home. The Espey home was just north of here but was torn down during the Percy Priest Lake project in the 1960s.

#201 Estes Cemetery

Walter Hill quadrangle. Located off Hwy 231 near intersection with Old Lebanon Hwy about 120 west of highway on private property. About 2 graves. Surnames are only Estes. Oldest known grave is Frances Estes, 1846-1910.

#202 Etter Cemetery

Smyrna quadrangle. Located on Rosemont Terrace behind Stewarts Creek Elementary School. About 3 graves(I could only find 1). Surnames include Etter, Lambert and Peebles. Oldest known grave is John Etter, 1760-1851.
Only marker I could find was in the small garden, a military marker for James Lambert. There is a thickly wooded area to the right of the top photo where the other 2 graves probably are located. The grave of John Etter is said to be next to a pyramid of cut limestone with no inscription. Third grave is for Samuel W Peebles, World War II 1916-1944

#203 Evans Cemetery

Evans quadrangle. Located on Claude Jones Rd, just west of Lebanon Pike. About 12 graves. Surnames include Evans, Wrather, and Hills. Oldest known grave is Charley Vaughter, 1870-1875.

#204 Evergreen Cemetery

Murfreesboro quadrangle. Located at Highland Ave and Greenland Dr. About 25,000 graves. The cemetery was formed when about 20 acres were purchased from the Maney family in 1872. The land included the Maney's slave cemetery and is located just east of the Maney homestead known as The Oaklands. Many graves here have death dates prior to 1872, but those have all been relocated here from other areas due to either Percy Priest Lake project, subdivisions, interstate highways or businesses(Nissan and State Farm, for example).
In 1890 the Confederate Circle was created and a year later Confederate graves from around the county began being moved here. Two granite markers list the known dead who were moved here.
Buried here is a former Governor of Tennessee, John P Buchanan, governed the state from 1891 to 1893.
