Served as Lt Colonel under General Cheatham in the Confederate Army
Present at battles of Shiloh, Chickamauga, Franklin and Nashville.
In 1879 he became President of the Nashville, Chattanooga and St Louis Railway
Served as U.S. Minister to Chile in 1893.
