John Buchanan arrived with his family in the Cumberland Settlement (Nashville) from Danville, KY on Dec 14, 1778. It was his third home. In 1785 his family moved 6 miles east, and built a fort on Mill Creek. They also built the first mill in the county. He was appointed a militia officer of Tennessee, 3rd Captain, in 1783.
On the night of Sep 30, 1792, Indian forces, three tribes worth, attacked "Buchanan Station". The settlers fought them off all night, only having one man slightly wounded. John's father, James, was killed by an Indian near this fort a few months before this battle, and may be buried here.
