Mumma Cemetery
Sharpsburg, Washington County, Maryland

A very old cemetery located on the grounds of Antietam National Battlefield. It was said to be on the property when the Orndorff family moved here in 1762. Jacob Mumma bought the farmstead in 1811. The battle raged around this area on September 17, 1862. The Mumma farm was burned by Confederates, as it was being used by Union sharpshooters. The National Battlefield was established in 1890 and later the cemetery was donated to the government. Only Mumma heirs can be buried here now.

Location: Mummas Lane, just off Smoketown Rd and not far from Visitor Center
