Union Cemetery
Burkittsville, Frederick County, Maryland

Yes, this is the cemetery from "The Blair Witch Project". It was "on the way" during our trip from Antietam to Union Bridge, MD. I stopped to see if any CSA or Union soldiers were buried here. I found none. I wish I'd had more time there, and knew more about the history of the battle near here that preceded the Battle of Antietam. Two churches(including the one in the photos here) and a schoolhouse were used as hospitals during the Battle at Crampton's Gap. Several Confederate soldiers who died from wounds were buried here, but moved years later.

Location: Hwy 17 at E. Cemetery Dr
Visited: September 2002
Dr John E Garrott tended to many of the wounded in the Battle at Crampton's Gap, which occurred just
outside of the town of Burkittsville in September 1862. His home still stands near the middle of town.
